Our CEO received the ASTM – International Award of Excellence in Additive Manufacturing Research

We’re proud to announce that our CEO and Founder, Dr. Behrokh Khoshnevis, who’s also a Distinguished Professor of Engineering at the University of Southern California, received the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM International) International Award of Excellence in Additive Manufacturing Research. The award ceremony was during the ASTM International Conference on Additive Manufacturing (ICAM) which was held at Washington DC in November 2023.

The ASTM AM Award of Excellence in Additive Manufacturing Research recognizes individuals who have made significant and continuous outstanding contributions in the areas of Research in the field of additive manufacturing. Nominees are judged upon their relentless and continuous efforts as well as outstanding contributions to research pertaining to, and in support of research as well as standards development in additive manufacturing. This will be evidenced by a nominee’s: 1. Industry/academic track record in the advancement of knowledge and awareness for additive manufacturing. 2. Demonstration of leadership qualities through activities and initiatives such as publications, presentations, teaching, and development/promotion of standards.

ASTM International is an international standards organization that develops and publishes technical standards for a wide range of materials, products, systems, and services. These standards are used by industries worldwide to ensure product quality, safety, and performance.

ASTM standards cover a diverse array of areas, including materials, construction, electronics, environmental protection, medical devices, and more. These standards provide guidelines and specifications for testing procedures, terminology, classifications, and other technical aspects, helping to ensure consistency and quality across various industries.

Dr. Khoshnevis’ fundamental contributions to Additive Manufacturing have been through three decades of effort in pioneering and developing construction-scale 3D printing technologies, and demonstrating their application in terrestrial and planetary construction. His research achievements in the planetary construction domain won him two grand prizes in international competitions which were sponsored by NASA in 2014 and 2016. His polymeric and metallic Additive Manufacturing technologies have been licensed by HP.

Because of his vast contributions to the field of Additive Manufacturing/3D printing, last year Dr. Khoshnevis received the International Freeform and Additive Manufacturing Excellence (FAME) Award at the International Solid Freeform Fabrication Symposium.
